Homebrew Scotch Ale Ingredients:

Malts:

5 lbs. light Dry Malt Extract (DME)

1.25 cups light DME for priming.

0.25 lbs. 40 L Crystal malt grain

0.50 lbs. 60 L Crystal malt grain

0.25 lbs. Chocolate malt grain

1 lb. American Victory (toasted barley) malt grain

 

Additives:

1 T. Irish Moss in boil for last 15 minutes.

 

Yeast:

Wyeast #1728 Scottish Ale yeast

 

Boiling Hops:

0.5 oz. Northern Brewer hop pellets for 70 minutes

0.5 oz. Fuggles plug or pellets for 30 minutes.

 

Finishing Hops:

0.5 oz. Saaz hops plug or pellets for 5 minutes.

0.5 oz. Saaz hops plug or pellets for 1 minute.

 

Water:

If your water quality is good, you can use tap water. If your tap water smells like a swimming pool, you may want to buy a 5 gallon cooler-carboy of drinking water at your local grocery store.
